Right there with you. In Walthamstow too. Batting away the holiday comments with ‘oh we need to be around in case my husband gets a job’ etc etc. in reality I’m quietly anxious about two weeks with two kids with very different needs but at least Lloyd Park’s new playground might keep them entertained for a bit?
Also I turned off paid subs for the same reason as you and have just started https://buymeacoffee.com/ in the hope people will sporadically give me money* instead.
This is a brilliant piece – I relate very much. How does my salary now feel like I have less disposable income than I did when I was 21? I regularly joke that playing the lottery is my only financial plan for the future because if I didn't have my misplaced hope in that, I think I would crumble away into dust with the financial worry. So sorry that this is your reality too. Look forward to reading the book! P.S. The title of this piece is excellent.
Thank you for writing this Laura. I think it's so important to be honest about it. So many people in the industry rely on having family money/a rich partner to make a living, this is something I've noticed since interning from the age of 16 and realising everyone had trust funds. Can't wait to read your book. x
keep those paid subscriptions ON, we want to support you no matter how infrequent the (brilliant) missives <3
Came here to say the same thing! ON, Laura! Nobody cares. And if they do, they'll unsub <3
Hear, hear!
In Walthamstow too! That’s 3 of us in this thread, however unlikely. Keep at it.
